The BBC reports that the commission saddled with the rules of betting is making efforts to unravel if there was a breach of betting regulations after Shaw ate a pie in the 83rd minute of the game.

It was disclosed that a bookmaker had offered an 8-1 odds that Shaw would eat a pie on camera during the match.

The goalkeeper was however caught on camera doing the exact thing in the 83rd minute of the encounter when his side was down 2 – 0.

“It was a bit of fun,” he later said. “We are told we are not allowed to bet as it is full-time professional football.

In no way did I put anyone in jeopardy of that – this is not the case here, this is just a bit of fun and me being hungry.”

“I think there were a few people. I think a few mates and a few of the fans,” he added.

The commission in Britain has however stated that it is looking into the case as to whether there was“irregularity in the betting market and establishing whether the operator has met its licence requirement to conduct its business with integrity”.
